The Excerpts 12:

This is on of my favourite verse:

One of the first utterances of the Buddha

Through many a birth in existence wandered I,
Seeking, but not finding, the builder of this house.
Sorrowful is repeated birth.
O housebuilder (Craving), thou art seen.
Thou shalt build no house (Body) again.
All thy rafters (Passion) are broken.
Thy ridge-pole (Ignorance) is shattered.
Mind attains the Unconditioned.
Achieved is the end of Craving.

Karuna - Karuna is compassion, the wish to see all
beings free from sorrow, pain and harm. The Prajna
Sutra teaches that "The status of a Bodhisattva is
attainable through the mind of compassion, it is not
attainable by merely meritorious deeds." Thus what is
in our hearts is as important as what we do. By the
same token, deeds or altruistic acts are also
critical. As compassion is seen as the motivating
quality of the bodhisattva, it becomes necessary for
even the most highly trained and intelligent Buddhist
scholar to go beyond knowledge and wisdom and to
perform compassionate actions. Minds, hearts, actions
- all are involved in the practice of true compassion.
